Cat L Black-Holman, founder of State of Fitness, LLC
A passion for fitness and the desire to see her clients succeed has driven Cat L Black-Holman since she became a fitness professional more than seven years ago. “An exercise program is not just about sets and reps,” says Cat. “It should be about improving quality of life by improving your function through fitness.”
She has taken the individualized approach of personal training and combined it with the diverse demands of group training to develop a specialized system of fitness. The approach, using techniques learned from world-renowned trainers, coaches, and instructors, takes clients through a wide-ranging series of exercises designed to address specific needs in their functional strength and biomechanical function. Her approach of ‘tough love’ pushes clients past perceived boundaries to make gains they never believed could happen. “There is nothing I enjoy more than seeing a client suddenly do something in the gym that he or she once thought was impossible,” Holman says. “You must make the mind/body connection during your workout to get the most out of it. Every client is more than just a client – personal training is personal and I interact with each of my clients like they are a good friend of mine.”
“You’ll never see me parade client after client through cookie cutter workouts,” she says. “I limit myself to a manageable number of clients per week, so I can develop a program best suited for them. I am a firm believer in quality over quantity.”
Cat is a certified as a personal trainer (CPT) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and American Council on Exercise (ACE). Holman is also a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach and ACE-certified Group Fitness Instructor. Kettlebell certifications include the WKC/AKC and RKC (2008-2010). She is a CrossFit athlete, practices Krav Maga, and enjoys trail running and golf. She has kickboxed both contact and non-contact for more than 10 years.
